Matt Fullen 傅麥特

Born in Colorado, USA, Matthew Fullen is a composer and jazz pianist now based in Taipei, Taiwan. He is known for his versatility and interdisciplinary collaborations. Fullen’s expertise spans across genres, from jazz to pop to classical, complemented by his extensive experience in both composing and performing.

As a jazz pianist, Fullen has performed on stages worldwide, performing at music festivals in the USA, China, and Hong Kong. His global footprint includes performances at Taichung Jazz Festival with Zy the Way and with leading Taiwan big band TPO, as well as the CMJ Music Marathon and Glastonbury Festival alongside Joanna Wang in 2013 and 2014.

From 2013 to 2021 he was keyboardist and band leader for one of Asia’s most well-known jazz/pop/indy crossover singers Joanna Wang. His collaborative endeavors reach a broad spectrum of musicians, including the likes of Chou Huei, Adam James Sorenson, and Huang Dawei. Furthermore, his original compositions have garnered international acclaim, showcased at events like the 2010 International Symposium of the American Composers Association and the 2013 Taipei Electronic & Tech Music Workshop, and receiving regular commissions.

On the academic front, Fullen completed his studies in composition at the University of Northern Colorado, being mentored by luminaries such as Dr. Paul Elwood and Dana Landry. Currently, apart from being the pianist and composer for the cross-genre orchestra "Zy The Way 中庸", he continues to shine in various performances. His solo work "Don't Get Too Comfortable," released in 2020, was nominated for "Best Album Producer" at the 32nd Golden Melody Awards.

As an organizer, Fullen has been music director of the DaDaoCheng International Festival of Arts since 2020, which has grown in scope to include performances by internationally-acclaimed musicians such as generation-leading jazz pianist Aaron Goldberg. Fullen also shares his musical knowledge as a jazz piano instructor at National Dong Hwa University, molding the next generation of musicians.
