Steven Ma 馬仕函
Steven Ma, widely recognized as "Steven Ma," is a distinguished Taiwanese jazz musician and drummer. His musical odyssey began in 2011 when he embarked on his drumming journey. Within a mere three years, he swiftly honed his drumming skills, and in 2014, he briefly trained under renowned drummers Ian Forman and Tommy Campbell in New York.
In 2016, Steven chose to further his expertise by enrolling in The Drummer Collective School in New York. During this time, he had the privilege to learn from master drummers like Vince Cherico, Peter Retzlaff, and Ian Forman, eventually earning his Diploma in 2018. Beyond enhancing his drumming skills, Steven showcased his talent in various New York venues like Desmond’s Tavern, Pianos, and the Delancey.
Upon returning to Taiwan, Steven's musical footprint spanned across Asia. From the Macau Philharmonic Festival, Hong Kong's International Ska Music Festival, to Singapore's Huayi Festival, his performances and collaborations are vast. His stellar gigs include notable jazz bars in Beijing, like East Shore Cafe and Jianghu Bar.
Beyond solo performances, Steven has collaborated with eminent musicians and bands such as the Andy Jaffe Septet, Hsieh Ming-Yen Quartet, and the Social Cat Association. Furthermore, he contributed to the album recording of "Dao Di" by Spring Noodles, which clinched the "Best Hakka Album" title at the Golden Melody Awards the subsequent year.
Steven's musical pursuits continued in 2021 when he became the spokesperson for Drum Qi Music Studio's suitcase drum. Additionally, he took part in performances at the International SKA Music Festival in Hong Kong and Huayi Music Festival in Singapore with the band Skaraoke.
All in all, Steven is a multifaceted, seasoned drummer. Whether it's learning, performing, or collaborating, he consistently exhibits unparalleled talent and professionalism.
